Tennis fans, here’s an essential diary date.
Newly-knighted Scottish tennis ace Sir Andy Murray is coming to Dubai to compete in the 25th annual Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
The world number one will be part of an all-star line up at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, in Garhoud, from 19th February-4th March.
He welcomed 2017 in style, by being knighted in the British queen’s New Year’s Honours.
Also joining the Wimbledon champion for two weeks of tennis are fellow stars of the court – seven-time Dubai champion Roger Federer, defending champion and world number four Stan Wawrinka, and two-time Dubai finalist Tomas Berdych.
Eight of the top ten women’s players will also be going head-to-head in the tournament – including world number one, Angelique Kerber, and British hopeful Johanna Konta.
Colm McLoughlin, CEO of tournament organisers Dubai Duty Free, said: “Yet again the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships has attracted the best players in the world, including Andy Murray, who has had a tremendous year in 2016 which culminated in a knighthood, so congratulations to Andy.
“We are looking forward to some thrilling matches and some great entertainment as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the tournament.”
Tickets start at AED 75 and go on sale from 17th January at the Dubai Tennis Stadium box office, open 9am-9pm, or www.dubaidutyfreetennischampionships.com
