Eight ways to smash the Dubai Fitness Challenge

Can you manage 30 minutes of exercise, every day? That’s the goal of Dubai Fitness Challenge and it comes with a host of fun activities so everyone, from fun-seeking beginners and experienced athletes, can achieve this.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, launched Dubai Fitness Challenge sent a text calling on THE WHOLE OF THE UAE to take part.

More than 1,500 free workout sessions will be held in Dubai from 20th October-18th November and there are also some big events to sign up for, like the Spartan Race, the Spinney’s 92 Cycle Challenge and Dubai City Swim.

To start us all off, here are a few things happening for people of all fitness levels:

Global Mala

Kick off the Dubai Fitness Challenge with a free yoga event at Safa Park, which aims to unite the community through positivity, intention and mindfulness. Five qualified instructors will lead a two-hour yogathon, consisting of 108 sun salutations of classical hatha yoga.

Over 16s. Free, but a donation of AED 50 is optional as part of a Dubai Cares campaign to help children in need. Friday October 20th. 4pm-6pm. Al Safa Park.


JLT Run 2017

Get moving this month with the JLT run, an 8km race through the streets of Jumeirah Lakes Towers in support of breast cancer awareness research. Don’t worry about not being fit enough, as you can stop and restart running at any time. Sign up for Dubai Fitness Challenge to get a 30 per cent discount on sign-up costs.
AED 50 for children, AED 125 for adults. Friday, October 27th. 3pm-6 pm. JLT Park.


Pink Ladies Games

Named in honour of breast cancer awareness month, the Pink Ladies Games are a great way to get active with your friends, all while supporting a good cause. Teams of three to five ladies will compete in fun and exciting challenges at the Sheraton JBR and Pink Caravan, the UAE’s breast cancer awareness initiative started by the Friends of Cancer Patients, will receive a portion of the day’s proceeds.

Access to the hotel’s spa and health check ups are also included in the cost of entry. AED 170 per player, AED 850 for a team of five. Friday, October 27th. 7am-11am.

Dubai City Swim

Get ready for the Dubai City Swim, a mass swimming event over the open waters at Kite Beach. Swimmers can choose from a variety of races based on their skill levels, while people who prefer not to get their feet wet can enjoy the scenic views of the Burj Al Arab from the shore and cheer on their family and friends.

AED 185. Saturday, 28th October. 8am-10am. Kite Beach.

Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge

Gear up for a great time with the 65km practice ride for the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge at the Al Qudra Cycle Path. There are two start times, 6am for fast riders (over 38 km per hour) and 6.05 am for intermediate riders (under 37.5 km an hour). Friends and family are welcome to watch too – nearby horse-themed food truck stop Last Exit is open 24/7 for refreshment.

Starting from AED 300. 8th-15th December. 6am-10am. Al Qudra.

Dubai Desert Warrior Challenge

The Dubai Desert Warrior Challenge is no regular obstacle course. Be prepared for a lot of “swinging, sliding, pulling and pushing your way towards the finish line” out in the sands of Dubailand. Based on your age and fitness levels there are different courses, all designed to push you to your limit.

Dubai International Triathlon

Join this final test of endurance as you battle your way through a 1.5 km swim, a 80 km cycle, and finish off with a 10 km run. Choose between six age categories, and gender categories of women only, men only and mixed.

Friday, 10th November. 6.30 am. The Waterfront, Jebel Ali.
