Adrenaline chasers with a head for heights have a new dare – XDubai has opened what’s said to be the world’s longest urban zipline.
The one-kilometre long wires are 170 metres high and will propel riders at speeds of up to 80 kilometres an hour as they zip from one of the Amwaj towers in JBR, through skyscrapers and across water, landing outside Dubai Marina Mall.
It’s already been tried and tested by none other than His Highness Sheikh Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Here’s the Crown Prince of Dubai launching into action:
Based on the popular original that was at Dubai Mall for a short time in 2015, XLine Dubai Marina has an cool new feature – a double wire, so you and your bravest friend can ride together. Also new is the Superman-style harness, which allows zipliners to channel their inner superhero.
Here’s us trying out the new zip-line:
The zipline can accommodate 16 people per hour and will cost AED 650 per person or AED 1,200 for two, which includes videos and photos from a helmet-mounted Go-Pro.
“We wouldn’t be XDubai if we didn’t push the limits of what is possible,” said Mohammed Javad, general manager of XDubai. “Following the success of the first XLine, we wanted to step it up more than a notch and importantly, give both residents and visitors to Dubai the opportunity to have a true-to-form XDubai experience.”
Want to ride?
All riders must be aged 12 to 65 and under 18s must be accompanied by their legal guardian. Zipliners must be a minimum height of 130cm, weigh 50kg-100kg, and be in a good medical condition.
