If you were thinking about a lazy end to the summer, maybe you ‘spoke’ too soon, because the Spinneys’ Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge is back.
The biggest cycling event in the Middle East begins on Friday (7th September) with the first of four build-up rides to warm up our muscles and get our bikes back in gear. However, registration closes today, so don’t put the brakes on.
Riders can wheelie get their legs moving with a 35 kilometre ride round Al Qudra Cycle Path, where all four practice rides take place. Faster riders set off at 6am and intermediate at 6.05am. Afterwards head to the dedicated Cycle Village to replenish with breakfast treats supplied by Spinneys. How does a cheese omelette sound? Worth tired legs, we’ll bet.
Bike store Revolution Cycles Dubai will be there to support new riders as they build up to the 92km main event on Friday, 14th December at Dubai Autodrome in Motor City. Significantly shorter rides for young cyclists set off on Thursday, 13th December.
Launched nine years ago, now more than 2,000 cyclists from around the world take part in the annual challenge. Elite riders can apply for the UCI Gran Fondo Category to try and qualify for the 2019 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Italy.
Even if you don’t have a bike, with a bike and helmet rental option in the registration process, there’s no excuse not to sign up. Good to know – the build-up rides help organisers determine your starting position in the Spinneys’ Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge
AED 90 per person. Race pack collection from 4.45am-5.45am on Friday, 7th September. Al Qudra Cycle Track. To register, visit www.cyclechallenge.ae or www.hopasports.com
