Two of the world’s ACE tennis superstars are poised to collide again at this Abu Dhabi tennis tournament.
Spanish champ Rafael Nadal and Russian superstar Daniil Medvedev are confirmed to grace this year’s edition of Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
The annual tennis spectacle is set to take place from 19th to 21st December at the International Tennis Centre in Zayed Sports City.
There’s no love lost between the two aces following their recent battle at the US Open 2019 Finals in New York. Nadal won the gruelling match-up to take home his 19th major title.
If the cards fall into place, the two might find themselves at the opposite sides of the net again for another epic duel.
Nadal is of course no stranger to the Abu Dhabi tournament, having competed and winning the title in 2010, 2011 and 2016.
He’s also out for redemption after losing last year to eventual runner-up Kevin Anderson.
Novak Djokovic, who sadly will not be at the tournament this year- was crowned the 2018 winner, equalling Nadal’s record four wins.
“I’m really looking forward to be returning to the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. It’s a great event and offers the best preparation for a fast start to the new season,” said Nadal.
“Every time I come to Abu Dhabi I feel at home and I’m always treated so well. The spectators are knowledgeable and know how to have fun and I have very good memories playing here.”
Medvedev, meanwhile, will be making his tournament debut this year and is hoping to make a smashing impression.
“I’ve heard so much about the Championship from my friends and there’s a lot of Russian support in Abu Dhabi. I know it’s also a popular holiday destination for my fellow countrymen so hopefully I can draw on that in my first appearance,” commented Medvedev.
A victory against Nadal of course would make it sweeter.
Tickets start from AED 100 and available at ticketmaster.ae and Virgin Megastores across the UAE.
