Art Dubai opens tomorrow and here’s what the eleventh annual art fair will hold for all you culture vultures.
A whopping 93 galleries from 44 countries have taken over the halls of Madinat Jumeirah, so spare a few hours to see it all.
Atfal Ahdath at The Room
Guests will be encouraged to play with their food at a surrealist dining experience realised by Beirut-based art collective Atfal Ahdath at The Room.
Taking cues from Salvador Dali’s cookbook, Les Diners de Gala, expect lots of exaggeration and repetition.
Art Dubai Bar
An interactive installation by Moroccan-born, Brooklyn-based artist Meriem Bennani that encourages social interaction between strangers.
Global Art Forum
Critically-acclaimed Global Art Forum, titled Trading Places, is this year exploring the way trade shapes – and reshapes – the world.
If you want to hear speakers from all over the globe, including musician and CEO of Dubai Airports Paul Griffiths, exploring connections between plane schedules and the musical score, this is the place to be.
Abraaj Group Prize
Each year, Art Dubai unveils the Abraaj Group Art Prize, the region’s most important accolade for artists from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia
We’ve already seen Rana Begum’s (pictured) winning work for the ninth edition of the prize, but it’s officially under wraps until 7pm, so you’ll have to wait!
Sheikha Manal Little Artists Program
Held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Sheikha Manal Little Artists Program returns for a fifth year.
Drop-in workshops see families and children work together to create a large-scale temporary installation and take tours of the galleries.
Piaget – Sunny Side of Life
Colourful stones, sparkling diamonds and intricate gold work make for some seriously covetable pieces from the high-end jewellery maker’s latest collection, which is being unveiled at Art Dubai.
After all that, need a refuel? The coffee bar at the entrance to Halls One and Two is serving date coffee for AED 25. Mixed with milk chocolate and date syrup, it’s really, really good.
Art Dubai runs from 15th-18th March at Madinat Jumeirah. Opening hours are 4pm-9.30pm Thursday, 2pm-9.30pm, Saturday 12pm-6.30pm. Wednesday is by invitation only. Admission AED 50 for a day pass or AED 80 for all three days. www.artdubai.ae
