Some things are just undeniably English: summer rain, tea with milk in it, fish and chips and apologising for apologising. One of our personal favourites is watching the footie in your local with a pint of hops, a cracking roast dinner and a jug of gravy. New Brit landlords at the Lion, Nick Alvis & Scott Price – or the Michelin-calibre Mitchell brothers as we like to call them (you saw it here first) – have made that last list item, one of their first orders of business.
AED 110 for roast + pint. Saturday and Sunday. The Lion, H Hotel. 04 359 2366. 8am-3am.
