Dubai’s most inspirational fitness family is to give fans a unique chance to share their love of activity with those in need. The race season may be over for Dubai’s favourite ‘fit-spiration’ family, the Watsons, aka Team Angel Wolf, but that isn’t slowing down this hardcore bunch whatsoever.
Tomorrow Dubai fitness fanatics should head to Dubai Sports World at Dubai World Trade Centre for the inaugural ‘Together We Can’ race.
This one-of-a-kind race will see Nick Watson and his son Rio, who has a rare genetic disorder, lead a high-spirited run around the air-conditioned summer sports hub. Participants will also get the chance to share in the joy of helping children with determination (formerly known as children with disability) in a unique way.
Nick Watson, former Royal Marine and fitness expert, regularly competes in gruelling triathlons, Iron Man and obstacle races – the latter with the help of a team – all while pulling, carrying or cycling with Rio, who has been diagnosed with Q44 Deletion De Novo. Rio’s disability means he struggles with walking and communicates through sign language.
Anyone who has taken part in, or supported, one of Team Angel Wolf’s races knows that it is an incredibly rewarding experience, as Rio comes alive during the races and deeply enjoys the experience.
Now, thanks to Omnicom Media Group (OMG) providing two customised wheelchairs designed for endurance racing, runners at tomorrow’s race will be able to help children of determination take part too.
The event will be the first of many free weekly events under Team Angel Wolf’s Together We Can theme, which will welcome volunteers to help children of determination enjoy sporting activities.
The race tomorrow starts at 7am and will cover 7km or 14 laps of Dubai Sports World’s running track.
“Releasing Team Angel Wolf ‘Together We Can’ community programme is an important next step in our journey,” Nick told Dubai Week.
“Over the last two years of us racing with Rio, we’ve managed to create the story, the foundation, to show what is possible, to spread the awareness.“Now to further the reach of the mission, messages and vision of Team Angel Wolf we need it to now be bigger than just Rio and ourselves… we need to create a platform of inclusion and opportunity for others to experience the same and to get involved!”
“The Team Angel Wolf Together We Can community programmes and the running chairs, is just one way we can help create this – other different community programmes are soon to be announced too.
“We hope to see other children who have disabilities enjoying the experience and making them as happy as it makes Rio!”
