Global Village, Dubai’s favourite family destination, is back for its 22nd season, starting on Wednesday, November 1st.
If you’re in the mood for some mouth-watering food from all around the world, shopping (and bargaining) with people from various cultures, exhilarating rides, and exciting shows – this is the place to go.
For those people who don’t have a car, or just don’t want to deal with the hassle of parking, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has announced two new bus routes to Global Village – Route 102 from the Rashidiya Metro station and Route 106 from the Mall of the Emirates station. Both are direct services and run hourly.
Two other bus services to Global Village are restarting for the winter. Route 103 leaves from Union Station, while 104 begins at Al Ghubaiba Station. The services run from 3.15pm until 11.15pm, with 30 minutes of travel time. All routes have a flat fare of AED 10.
Here are three more reasons why you should make sure not to miss the new season, which this year is themed Come Experience the World.
More than 100 food kiosks
Who doesn’t love food? (If you don’t, we are slightly worried…). Global Village’s 120 street stalls feature everything from eccentric rolled-up pizzas, sticky Turkish ice-cream, Canadian comfort food poutine, local lgeimat (fried doughnut balls) and fiery Japanese takoyaki balls. On offer is food from more than 30 countries and the best part is that prices generally range under AED 30.
If you’d rather sit down to a meal, Global Village has 23 restaurants and café’s this year, featuring nine new cuisines from Mexico, China, the Gulf, and Cuba.
Fun fact: In 2016, Global Village sold more than 1.5 million cups of karak chai.
Tour the world (without spending a fortune)
Explore 27 different pavilions (representing 75 cultures) including Syria, Bahrain, Iran, China, Thailand, Turkey, Russia, Africa, Egypt, The Americas, India and Pakistan. Two new pavilions are launching this year: Bosnia and Balkans, and South Asia (Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal).
At each pavilion you will be able to buy traditional goods and get a taste of what the culture has to offer through heritage corners and cultural performances.
Don’t be afraid to haggle!
Rides and Shows
Get ready for some family fun with the introduction of the Carnival. There are 28 rides to choose from, 34 tests of skill, and more than 100 arcade games to play on. This year ride prices are discounted by 10 per cent discount too.
One of Global Village’s most popular shows, the Mega Monster Stunt Show is back (six days a week), featuring more than 30 stuntmen performing heart-stopping car chases and motorcycle jumps.
It makes you happy
Don’t believe us? Last year, Global Village managed to hit a 9/10 score on their guests ‘Happiness Index’.
Not to mention the 5.6 million people who attended last year! That’s 5.6 million smiles…
This year, Global Village will kick off with a concert by Emirati star, Shamma Hamdan. Head to the attraction’s Main Cultural Stage on Friday November 3rd at 9pm, to hear Shamma’s most popular songs, including Ajr w Afya, Abi Afham, Ma Ytob and more.
Other performers confirmed for later Fridays include Tamer Hosny, Mohammad Al Salem, Shreya Ghoshal, and Mike Singh.
Exit 37 Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Tickets from AED 15. Open 4pm-12am (1am Thursday/Friday). www.globalvillage.ae
