Bargain hunters rejoice – a HUGE car boot sale is taking over Global Village every Friday.
Global Village is closing down for its summer hibernation on the 7th April (but not before an epic Liam Payne concert). Which means, even if we include this weekend, there are only three more days left to track down all that must-have trunk-hidden treasure.
For those who didn’t spend their childhood rooting through tables of other people’s pre-loved stuff, a car boot sale is basically a flea market with wheels. A car boot souk, if you will.
Sellers can pull their cars up to the Global Village parking lot every Friday, where bargain hunters will flock between 1pm-5pm. Rent a spot for AED 150, load up your car’s boot (or trunk, if you speak Stateside) with unwanted clothes, toys, books and such like, drive up and start selling. Small business owners are also welcome to sell handmade crafts, toys, sweets and other home-made creations.
Entry and parking for visitors is free and for families, there’s face painting and a petting zoo to keep little ones occupied, as well as food and drink stalls. Oh, and if you run out of cash for buying all the bargains, there’s an ATM too.
Founder Rob Newbould spent his childhood frequenting car boot sales in the UK and decided to launch one in Dubai. He believes it is the first of its kind and will prove a hit with the emirate’s fast-moving population of renters.
“My father was an avid bargain hunter and took us to many auctions, factory outlets and of course car boot sales throughout our childhood. My father instilled in me the importance of thinking second-hand first! Whether we were buying or selling. I’ve been in Dubai for the past seven-and-a-half years, during which time I had never come across a car boot sale,” he said.
