THREE TO TRY: Places in Dubai to eat for World Vegetarian Day

Vegetarian DubaiShelve the steak and chuck the chicken – World Vegetarian Day on 1st October celebrates all things herbivore.

Here’s where you can go vegetarian in style, in Dubai this October and forever.

Govinda’s, Jumeirah Beach Road

Govinda's vegetarian Dubai

Pure vegetarian is your starter for 10 here, as Govinda’s also offers vegan and oil-free options.

Dishes like Paneer Masala with chopped spinach and a health-conscious take on the classic dhal fry are meatless but not tasteless, which have received the seal of approval from our resident vegan.

For a quick lunch time option, check out Govinda’s AED 48 meal packages that include drinks, starters, two vegetable dishes, dhal, rice, bread and a sweet, with options including high protein and diabetic friendly.

12pm-4pm, 7pm-1am. 04 275 9044.

77 Veggie Boutique, JLT

77 Veggie Boutique, JLT vegetarian

Nixing everything we know about eating our five a day, 77 Veggue Boutique serves up 77 different combinations of vegetables and focuses on low-fat and calorie-conscious dishes.

At AED 21, spiced chai made with almond milk and served with oatmeal cookies is a zingy afternoon treat.

And Molly Made Much Bunch baked cabbage and carrot balls will hit your tastebuds and not your waistline with a tangy Manchurian sauce.

9am-10pm Sunday to Thursday. 11am-10pm Friday. 11am-9pm Saturday. 04 422 4116. Tiffany Tower, Cluster W.

Little Italy, Karama

Little Italy vegetarian

Italian cuisine usually leans heavily on all kinds of meat, but at Little Italy it’s no meat, no problem.

Hidden away near Karama Post Officel, its scarcity as an Italian vegetarian restaurant means it’s always busy.

Although some Mexican dishes are thrown in with the all-Italian favourites, it’s the heavily-loaded thin crust Sicilian pizzas that will have you saying ‘fantastico’.

04 385 2445. 12pm-12am, every day expect Friday, when it opens at 1.30pm.
