Stress is a basic part of modern life. It is even necessary to help us perform at our best, but everyone needs to take some time out.
Arrows & Sparrows Café is that kind of places that easily fits in the ‘me time’ moments, hanging out with friends or casual business meetings. Located in The Greens, next to Sheikh Zayed Road, it is the perfect spot to meet for a coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. Bonus points for the large public car park outside.
Inside, the industrial art deco style combines cement floor and high white brick walls with greenery hanging from the ceiling. It’s refreshing and makes us feel like we’re in another city, maybe even a different country.
The menu also has a fresh and innovative character, with a variety of healthy options for breakfast, sandwiches, salads, main dishes and smoothies. Most of the breakfasts are under AED 50 and main courses average at AED 65, making it an affordable treat.
Breakfast is served until 3pm at weekends, when we’ve heard tables are full. With treasures like marshmallow French toast and pistachio guacamole on toast, we make a mental note to join the crowds soon.
Post-lunch, we go for a Korean Chicken Bowl (AED 55) with mango and kale smoothie (AED 25) and an Asian-inspired ‘Huuuuge Burger’ (AED 49) with acai smoothie (AED 28).
All the food is presented ready for Instagram action. We’re taken aback when we’re handed a pair of black surgical-style gloves to eat the gigantic double patty in a bright red bun, slathered with a secret sauce and piquant wild mushroom mix. However the gloves do make for a less messy eating experience and we consider taking a pair everywhere we go.
Our chicken bowl is a colourful combination of kimchi, fresh mango, avocado and broccoli has the perfect umami flavour that is hard to forget. Both smoothies are freshly made and while they’re not the cheapest we’ve slurped, they are bursting with flavour.
Dreamt up by the team behind Friends’ Avenue Café in JLT, Arrows and Sparrows brings the same relaxed vibe and excellent food to another part of Dubai. Perfect if you’re in the area and suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.
