As a species, our appetite for barbecues far out weighs our ability, Skip the scorched steaks and barely cooked bangers and let the experts at Barbecue Delights take the wheel.
The casual dining concept has seven branches around Dubai, with the newest popping up at Ibn Battuta Mall. As the name suggests, the concept revolves around grilled meat, with inspiration taken from Pakistani, Afghani and North Indian cuisine. However to simply namecheck three countries, or parts of, would do a great disservice to the wealth of food on offer. Simply put, it’s a massive spread. There’s an à la carte too, but it seems everyone, including us, is here for the buffet.
Menus change daily, but expect to start with soups and fried meat starters served to the table. We love chunks of white fish from the Arabian Gulf, paired with a garlicky sauce, and deep-fried vegetable pakoras (chickpea flour and vegetable dumplings).
The smelling of grilled meat captivates us before we even take our seat at the busy outlet in Oud Metha, so we’re eager to visit the live grilling station. Chicken, beef and seafood is toasted to perfection here. Anyone who loves punchy flavours should try the chicken achari boti (with raw mango and achar masala), but be sure to explore the other options on offer when you visit, especially the hearty and traditional skewered kebabs.
Food is fresh and several times during our two-hour visit the buffet is refilled (when we buffet, we buffet hard). There are a spread of curries and salads and veggies, you’re taken care of too, with creamy dhal and several variations on paneer.
Go light or hard with the desserts – there’s fresh fruit salad and jelly, the ubiquitous and syrupy balls of Indian dessert gulab jamun, or sticky sweet coils of jalebi rabdi.
