Pretty much the national dish of the UK (apart from really, really mild curry), fish and chips in the takeaway of choice for many Brits living in Dubai.
But would you pay AED 270 for a plate of battered fried fish and accompanying chips?
For the next week, romantic waterside hangout Pierchic is offering diners the chance to try Posh Fish and Chips as part of its Shellebrates culinary tour. That’s a fillet of turbot, with a generous portion of triple-cooked chips made from Maris Piper potatoes.
What makes them so special? Well, the turbot fish is only found in European waters, so it’s had quite a journey to Dubai. Known as King of the Sea and with a slightly sweet taste, it’s one of the most expensive prime fishes, kilo for kilo. Creamy Maris Pipers hold the honour of being the UK’s most popular potato and are boiled, fried and fried again to create the perfect chip.
Pierchic’s new head chef, Paolo Bellamio, came up with costly twist on the traditional British feast, which dates back to the 17th century and was one of few foods not to be rationed during the Second World War, as it was believed to be a morale booster.
The swanky supper will also become part of the Pierchic Chic Brunch offering from September.
Posh Fish and Chips will be available for two weeks from 20th August to 2nd September, priced at AED 270. 04 366 6705. Open for lunch from 12pm-3pm daily (12.30pm-4pm Fridays), dinner 6pm-11.30pm.
