Here are six places to celebrate Pakistan and India’s Independence Days

Who cares if your fellow compatriots back in India and Pakistan get to wake up really late – ’cause duh it’s a national holiday! You however, can get your balle-balle on celebrating 71 years of azadi at these cool spots right here in Dubai.

Are you reminiscing those school assembly days where you would don the colours of the tiranga and sing the national song totally off-tune but with so much passion that your chest would hurt with pride? Well, you can now relive the feeling at the Consulate General of India, which is organising a flag hoisting ceremony, followed by the national anthem, to commemorate the 71st anniversary of Indian Independence.

All welcome, free. 15th August. 8am-9.30am. Flag hoisting begins at 8.30am. Al Hamriya, Diplomatic Enclave.

A buffet of Indian street food and a welcome mocktail for only AED 15 await the first 15 diners who arrive at Bombay To Mumbai restaurant in Deira on 15th August. Everyone else pays a still reasonable AED 59 and there’s band playing from 8pm-10pm. Small plates, meals, and desserts in vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu are available to order, along with childhood favourites pani poori and bun maska chais.
