All the best places to count your blessings this Thanksgiving

What is this Thanksgiving we speak of? If you own a pair of Stars and Stripes pyjamas you probably don’t need telling, but for the sake of the rest of us – it all starts simply with being thankful.

It’s a seasonal celebration observed in the USA, Canada, parts of the Caribbean and Liberia, on the fourth Thursday of November each year. Its origins are tied to giving thanks for the coming harvest, but has now taken on a more broader gratitude for blessings in life. And turkey. Vast quantities of turkey dinner.

If you’d like to join our North American brethren in celebrating reasons to be cheerful, Dubai has a lot going on. Which is just as well, in this land of tolerance, safety, love, sun and prosperity – we’ve got a lot to be thankful for.

What?: Thursday Brunch, with a turkey twist

Where?: Tribeca, JA Ocean View Hotel, JBR

Lip Sync War at Tribeca

What’s happening?: Tribeca is giving Thursday evening brunch a generous drench in Thanksgiving gravy. Enjoy seasonal sustenance such as turkey roulade, pumpkin risotto and pecan pie, alongside the house taking over what would normally be your uncle Trevor’s duties in keeping your bottomless drinks topped up. And to cap it all off, a traditional game of charades. Sort of. For anyone capable of flamboyance on a full stomach, a special edition of Tribeca’s Lip Sync battles will be taking place. Who’s up for a bit of Whitney?

How?: AED 249. Thursday 22nd November, 8pm-12pm. 050 345 6067.

Whilst they’re probably slightly better known for smoking brisket, your gobble gobble is in good hands. P&B’s majored in the study of side dishes; an alumnus of the university of yumness and fraternity of Cumun Eata Pie. Anywhoo – the available trimmings to accompany your basted bird include roast or mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, boiled cabbage, grilled corn and carrots. You have to order 48 hours in advance, so if you want actual Thanksgiving taken care of, ORDER NOW.

Where?: Seafire Steakhouse & Bar, Atlantis The Palm, Palm Jumeirah

What’s happening?:  Seafire is patriotically slapping one hand on its chest, and running an appropriately jumbo-sized star spangly set menu up the flagpole. They’ve got limp crab corn fritters, savoury short rib donuts, pumpkin soup (of course), traditional roast turkey with all the accompaniments, including the geographically relevant, though festively unorthodox dollops of mac and cheese. The red, white and blow your mind climax is a pecan pie cheesecake with butter biscuit and vanilla ice cream. Oh say can you see. Nope, we’re in a food coma.

How?: AED 250 (20 per cent off American grapes). 5pm-11pm. 04 426 2626
