Book out your weekend
More than 1.5 million titles will be on display at this year’s Sharjah International Book Fair. The world’s largest book fair features 393 guests from 48 countries who will take part in more than 2,600 events, including a cookery corner. People will also be able to explore a replica of the ‘Birmingham Quran’, one of the world’s oldest surviving Islamic manuscripts. Not interested? Remember, dinosaurs didn’t read. Now they are extinct. We are sure there’s a connection somewhere.

Greaties from the 80s
Go back in time to 1980s UAE with Art Jameel’s new interactive studio. Organises have gathered videos, interviews, documents, clippings, music and more from artists, poets, playwrights, theatre directors and writers of the time. For all those who grew up in the UAE, this will be a walk down memory lane.

Sunrise on the sunset festival
The veritable extravaganza that is Sunset Festival is back at Barasti Beach for the weekend. Unlike a lot of big name music fests entry is absolutely free. DJs of international repute: Duke Dumont and Bakermat will be providing the musical accompaniment to you making shapes in the sand under foot.

Not all heroes wear headbands
Let your alter ego superhero come out as you join the likes of Superwoman, Batman and Wonder Woman (not The Flash though, come on that’s cheating) as they race through a 3.2 km route, starting from Skydive Dubai. This event is open to the young and the young at heart.

The Brunching Dead
Mexican restaurant Muchachas in Al Safa has the perfect reason to dig out the Halloween vibes for one last 2017 outing. The Friday brunch will be celebrating the Latin tradition ‘Day of the Dead’ with skilled skull face painters in addition to their usual assemblage of essential Central American flavours.
