Six places to celebrate Chinese New Year

Ring in the Chinese New Year Dubai-style, with unlimited Asian eats, parades of dancers thronging the mall and free language lessons for kids.

City Walk, Culture Parade

City Walk

Head to City Walk on Friday (16th February) see a parade of 1,500 performers dancing and singing to represent 20 Chinese provinces. Held in partnership with the Consulate General of China and Dubai Police, it’s totally free and bound to be fun!

‘Light Up’ show on Burj Khalifa


A captivating show of dragons and other Chinese cultural symbols and traditions will soar over Downtown Dubai from 16th-24th February.

Spanning a surface area of 109,252 sq metres (the size of about 20 football fields), the show is made up of 1.1 million pixels set on the Burj Khalifa’s new LED panel displays. Catch its seven-minute long spectacular light show at 8pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and 10pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

To coincide with the second anniversary of Dragon Mart 2, the mall is being given over to 10 days of entertainment and prize draws. As you’d expect, the huge Chinese shopping space is celebrating the spring in style.

From 15th-24th, little shoppers have their own creative arts and crafts zone, open daily from 2pm to 10pm, to teach the art of making traditional Chinese ornaments and rattle drums. Every day from 5pm-9pm entertainment comes from dancing ‘lions’, drummers, Shaolin warriors and roving stilt-walkers wearing traditional colourful Chinese.

Get kids involved with learning about another culture in the most fun way possible – making dumplings, taking part in free Mandarin classes and throwing themselves about (in a safe and organised fashion) with kung fu and martial art. All on Thursday, 15th February.
