One to percolate on
Arrows and Sparrows is giving away two free coffees for every two select breakfasts between 22nd-26th. That’s grounds for an air fist pump if you ask us. The additional great news is that the, part-abstract-sculpture, part-taste-sensation, twisted avo’ on toast (pictured) is included in the promotion.
Breakfast dishes from AED 42. Served till 6pm. Arrows and Sparrows, Emaar Business Park, The Greens. 04 558 8141.
Topping the bill
If you had one shot, one opportunity, would you capture it, or just continue to tuck in to your pizza? It’s a genuine question and a legit likely scenario if you head down to Business Bay’s Pizza Express’ Open Mic Night. Get on stage for a chance to unleash your shower routine on an audience of people , far too enamored with their dinner to leave.
Free entry. 7pm-10.30pm (happy hour 4pm-8pm). Pizza Express in Bay Square, Business Bay. 04 566 5722.

Pop street artist Denis Ouch is the man behind of an edgy brand of art that is currently lighting up the creative world. He’ll only be there for one night, but a selection of the work will stay on.

Hairs to you

Which is a beautiful way to help others.

Tuesday, 24th April
Each day between Sunday and Thursday, Bistro Des Arts has a different weekly lunch time special on offer. Tuesdays happen to be the firm almost universal (excluding you veggies, of course) favourite of steak frites (steak and chips / fries depending on what you call thin strips of fried potato in your part of the world). You can get two courses (plus starter) for AED 75 or the full three for AED 90.
From AED 75. Bistro Des Arts, Dubai Marina Promenade. 04 551 1576.
Arigato Miss Kitty
Come down to Mr. Miyagi’s on Tuesday for their Hello Kitty night. It’s more of a ladies’ night than some sort of cultish homage to the cartoon cat. For AED 99 each member of the girl squad can pick up a trio of food plates and three individual beverages.
AED 99. From 5pm. Mr. Miyagi’s, Media One. 04 420 7489
Societe is closing down at the end of the week. But no sniffles, not yet. Before the curtains close, and the much adored dance floor is rolled away for good, there are still great memories left to make and a tail feather or two left to shake. And on Tuesday ladies drink selected beverages free between 10pm and 1am. For the last time. [sniffles].
Free. From 10pm. Societe Dubai, Marina Byblos Hotel, Dubai Marina. 050 357 1126.
Wednesday, 25th April
Seafood, eat it
Glasshouse Brasserie has a special seafood night each Wednesday and have wisely avoided calling it a brunch – being that it takes place from 7pm. It does include some incredible fresh oceanic bounty though, laid out in an abundant buffet and from live cooking stations.
AED 159 or AED 219 with beverages. 7pm-10pm. Dubai Creek Hilton, Dubai Creek. 04 212 7550.
Pasta making, as a skill, is up there with one-armed push ups and chainsaw juggling for being immediately impressive. Jones the Grocer’s head chef, Dayan Anthony, a master of the art in his own right, has agreed to shed some light on this most coveted of qualifications with a pasta making course. And you get to cook and taste your own creations. Teaching you, gnocchi it until you’ve tried it.
AED 275. From 6pm. Jones the Grocer, Emirates Golf Club. 04 417 9999.
Comin’ straight outta Southbeach. Bagatelle’s Miami location has hosted a much-loved night of retro 80s and 90s beats. The Rock ‘n’ Baga concept has been faithfully exported to Bistro Bagatelle Dubai – complete with its own opulent burger, boasting tranches of Wagyu beef and foie gras (AED 150). This Wednesday the theme is Michael Jackson vs Prince.
Free entry. 8pm-late. Bistrot Bagatelle, The Fairmont Hotel. 04 354 5035.
Thursday, 26th April

The Birmingham Qur’an is coming to Dubai Design District (D3) between 19th April-3rd May. It is one of the oldest surviving Islamic manuscripts, one of the reasons the exhibition was extremely popular when it came to the Sharjah International Book Fair last year. The exhibition includes interactive facilities and workshops to aid education and further understanding.
