The Laughter Factory, things to do

Top up mirth levels for the last show of the Summer of Laughter season. Laura Lexx makes her regional début at The Laughter Factor. She’s joined by the accomplished Tom Wrigglesworth and stand-up stalwart Rob Deering (pictured) is back by popular demand.

Filipino super star Sarah Geronimo, Dubai Duty Free Tennis, things to do, concerts Dubai, live music

Filipino super star Sarah Geronimo is celebrating 15 years in the business they call show. ‘This 15 Me’ tour comes to Dubai’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium tonight. The Manila-born singer will be serenading us with numbers from her new album of greatest hits from the last decade plus, wearing a selection of lovely frocks by Dubai-based Filipino designer AMATO Couture.

This Thursday is the re-opening party for super club BASE. The venue is back, dropping dirty EDM belters on the dancefloor until the early hours. Last season saw some huge names in the dance, electro, hip hop and urban genres appearing on stage. This time round, popular night LYFE will be starting with a soiree packed with wild light shows and entertainment. Let the rave commence.

Two Thai One

Cafe Isan JLT

From now (Thursday) until just before 8pm tonight, Thai eatery Cafe Isan in JLT is offering two-for-one on its entire menu. From ride-or-dies massaman curry, tom yum soup and spring rolls, to rare gems from the Isan region of Thailand such as laab pla (fish) salad and chicken om curry, you’ll struggle to spend more than AED 50 a head on these freshly made feasts.

Just the ticket

Pakistan Cricket

Didn’t get a ticket for the cricket? The dramatic knockout games of the Asia Cup 2018 are unfolding in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and you can catch every over at Kickers in Sports City. Today from 3.30pm (Friday), it’s the turn of Pakistan and Afghanistan and India versus Bangladesh. Entry is free and happy hour bounces in from 3pm-7pm, with 33 per cent discounts on food and drinks.

Devotees of the recently opened Canadian-Mexican eatery, take note – La Carnita is now open for lunch at the weekends. Carnita-vores can tuck their incisors into ceviches, cod tacos, chicken wings and a fiesta of other Mexican street food classics during daylight hours. Will there be a new brunch starting here soon? We certainly hope so.

JLT Flea Market

Annual Emirates Motorsport Expo will revv up petrolheads when it parks up at Dubai Autodrome today. From karting to circuit racing to off-road, all the fun of four wheels is here. Watch F1 cars, super cars, drag cars and more lap the 5.39-kilometre circuit – there’s even space for passengers in some motors – and hear about how to get into motorsports in the UAE.

Avast me hearties! All hands on deck for the Sheraton Mall of the Emirates treasure hunt. Don’t unplug for this one – contestants will have to solve a series of cryptic clues around hotel and mall, then snap a picture and post on Instagram.  The player who solves all the clues in the shortest time will win a five-night stay at Trump Turnberry golf resort in Scotland. Stars of South Indian cinema will be at Bollywood Parks this weekend for the the glittering South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA). See on-screen heroes of the Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam film industries walk the red carpet to where awards are being dished out in the 850-seat Rajmahal Theatre. There’s a full list of nominees online to prep your star spotting and the event begins at 6.30pm.
