Mexico celebrates its independence day this year on 16th September, so this weekend is given over a fiesta of Mariachi music, free guacamole and eye-catching outfits.
Here’s how you can get involved…
La Tablita, Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights
Tuck into an unlimited spread of Mexican delights, including Chiles en Nogada – a tri-colour dish that uses chilli, walnut cream and pomegranate seeds to represent the Mexican flag. There’ll be lots of singing and dancing, possibly fuelled by traditional Mexican mixed drinks. Feel free to dress up, as the staff will be kitted out in their finest fiesta wear.
7pm-2am (buffet open until 11pm), Friday, 14th September. AED 180 per person (excluding beverages). La Tablita, Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights. 04 317 2222.
Tortuga, Mina A’Salam, Madinat Jumeirah
Shimmy your hips to the sounds of a live Mariachi band at Tortuga. The guitar and violin-led music isn’t the only traditionally Mexican element to this celebration – there’s also a buffet of authentic eats and if it doesn’t contain guacamole, we’ll scoff our sombrero.
AED 195 inclusive of selected beverages. Saturday, 15th September, 7pm-11.30pm. Tortuga, Mina A’Salam, Madinat Jumeirah. 04 432 3232.
Loca Dubai, Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Spa, Jumeirah
Pledge your allegiance to the Spanish-speaking country with a five-hour brunch. Expect suitably festive decorations, lots of Mexican flags and plates piled high with huervos (eggs) done Mexican-style, slow-roasted ribs, kingfish fajitas and freeflowing beverages.
Keep your wits about you for a fast-paced game of loteria, the Mexican version of bingo that uses colourful cards instead of balls.
AED 285, including food and drinks. 12pm-5pm. Saturday, 15th September. Loca Dubai, Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Spa, Jumeirah. 04 346 1111.
