There are still more acts yet to confirm for Virgin Radio’s RedFestDXB 2019 music festival, but so far we know: Camila Cabello, Macklemore and Jax Jones will all appear live on stage.
That’s three genuinely massive, quite musically diverse, artists to look forward to seeing in the open air on the 14th and 15th February at Media City Amphitheatre.
Of course the problem with annual music festivals is, however good your line-up, you’re always going to have to try to top it next year. The last event was a tough one to beat, with The Chainsmokers, Kesha, Bebe Rexha, DJ Marshmello and Craig David all putting down memorable performance despite the patchy rain. *flashbacks to trying to dance with an umbrella*
One of the stand out sets (or two actually – he closed out both nights) from last year was the station’s own Dani Neville – who we hope to see doing exactly the same again in 2019.
A quick look at this year’s acts so far:
The outspoken Seattle rapper is probably best known for his 2012 monster hit ‘Thrift Shop.’ The track helped Macklemore and collaborator Ryan Lewis on the way to four Grammy Awards in 2014. The video has 1.25 billion views on YouTube and unbelievable replay value. Macklemore’s lyrics are some of the most poetic in the business, his complex rhymes often ruminate on deep social issues, but can just as often flip onto a subject like resembling Brad Pitt’s ugly cousin. A personal favourite of ours: Growing Up, ft Ed Sheeran – check it out.
Formerly of X Factor, and Fifth Harmony fame – Cabello took to the stage as a solid solo artist in 2016. Her album Camila hit the top spot in the US Billboard top 200 and featured the 2017 summer anthem ‘Havana.‘ Fun fact, when she was still with the girl group Fifth Harmony, they performed a cover version of Lego House, by Ed Sheeran. He later tweeted that the rendition was ‘incredible’ and a fan printed the tweet, framed and gave it to Cabello, who now has it on her wall. True story.
This UK DJ and producer was hustling for a fair few years before he could see the light of a break-through. In 2014 he co-wrote and produced several singles with Duke Dumont. In 2016 he dropped the stripped back club banger ‘House Work’ (below) and then what is probably his best known, certainly biggest hit ‘You Don’t Know Me,’ featuring vocalist Raye. We can’t wait to hear those beats on some big ol’ bass cones.
