If you’re tired of the rampant opportunism that goes on around certain dates in the calendar, relax, we have the remedy – this is our guide to getting the best out of Valentine’s Day without declaring bankruptcy. Twice.
The 14th February is almost upon us and the good news is that if you haven’t booked anything for this most hyped of nights, we could save you a bundle. All of our grand gestures are AED 300 or less for the couple. Because V day shouldn’t have to be V expensive.
We love the quirky retro vibe of Roxy Cinemas. They’re a romantic nod towards the golden age of film, but furnished with all the modern luxury and convenience that we’ve developed a sense of entitlement to. If you’re the type of couple that enjoys the classic combo of dinner and a show, the Roxy Cinemas Valentine’s Day package is pretty good value. For AED 300, you get two Platinum Plus tickets to either, rom-com staple – ‘Notting Hill’ or recently dropped blockbuster ‘Alita: Battle Angel.’ The in-screen in-love meal includes two starters, one sharing platter plus two romantic desserts and mocktails.
AED 300 per couple. City Walk, The Beach and Box Park locations. 13th and 14th February. www.theroxycinemas.com
These heart-shaped lakes caused an Instagram meltdown when they appeared on Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s feed in November last year. But they’re not just Insta hot, they’re IRL hot and you can visit them IRL (in real life) too. You’ll find the manmade landmark close to the Last Lake of Al Qudra, at the top of the D63, past Arabian Ranches. There are heart-shaped sculptures and wooden odes to love scattered around the place. If you’re thinking about popping the question, we feel there are few better places to ask, ‘will you please let me have on of those chips.’
Free. D63, by Al Quadra Lakes.
Perhaps madam et monsieur would consider dinner with a view? RIVA Ristorante’s picturesque location on Palm Jumeirah offers those sort of intimate shoreline views that sprinkle a little holiday romance on a relationship. The package begins with the gift of a rose, and a set menu that includes gastro-disiacs like tuna carpaccio, duck breast and peach flambé. All for a very reasonable AED 249 per couple.
