Big city, bright lights. An annual festival illuminates Sharjah.
When the sun goes down in Sharjah, the ninth annual Festival of Light sees the emirate lit up until Saturday (16th February). Illuminations with the theme of ‘Culture and Family’ will reflect on landmarks around the city and they’re totally free to see.
International and local light artists have plans to give 17 locations a glow-up, including Sharjah University City Campus Avenue, Sharjah Police Academy, University City Hall, American University of Sharjah, Sharjah Book Authority, Sharjah City Municipality, Khalid Lagoon, Palm Oasis, Masjid Al Noor, Al Qasba – Internal Façades, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In the east of Sharjah, and Hamriyah, there’ll be shows at Municipality and Municipal Council (Al Hamriyah), Municipality, Municipal Council and Town Planning Department (Khorfakkan), Masjid Sheikh Rashid Bin Ahmad Al Qasimi (Dibba Al Hisn), Municipality, Municipal Council and Directorate of Human Resources (Kalba).
If you want to see a bridge of light over Khalid Lagoon, a forest of fireflies at Palm Oasis, or mosaics shining on Grand Mosque Dibba, they’re among the 20 fantastic phantasmagorias reflecting on Sharjah’s official buildings and monuments.
As you’d expect, all the action takes place after dark and a full schedule can be found at the festival’s official website.
Here’s a taster from the opening night:
