Make way for Union Properties’ Family Fun Day at its UPTOWN Mirdiff community. Live entertainment is laid on, because = a Dubai event. Dress up as your favourite superhero and run through the streets of Al Barsha on Friday. It’s all in aid of Al Noor Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities. Meet there (it’s behind Mall of the Emirates) for a 7.30am start. You’ll get a certificate and there are prizes for the best dressed.

The Farmers’ Market returns to Bay Avenue this weekend. It’s an organic edibles extravaganza hosted by Baker & Spice. They’ll have their own live cooking session, plus all the usual local farm-to-face suppliers of fresh fruit and veg, ice cream, bone broth, honey, eggs, bread and pastries. There are sweet treats for the well-behaved and a well-stocked larder of wellness products. Got kids? They’ve brought all the fun of the fair (and skatepark) for the wee ones.

Pulse bike ride, free things to do, free bike ride, Sports City, off road biking

Get ready to go off-road as the Pulse off-road community bike ride returns to Sports City on Friday. Register from 7am for five, 10 and 20-kilometre treks through the desert. At the finish line, there’s a Canal Garden market where riders can refuel and kids are amused.

Registration opens at 7am and rides start from 8am. By the Sports City Canal, opposite Fit Republik.

Hey Mickey you’re so flexible

This weekend Dubai Miracle Garden is turning into an al fresco yoga studio, where families can take part in a one-hour group class. The session on Saturday will have you doing the downward dog in Disney Avenue, in front of giant floral versions of Mickey Mouse and his pals. Kids under eight have a lot of Disney-themed activities to keep them occupied – including Mickey & Friends face painting, a ball pit and colouring in.

Telling tales

International Storytelling Festival, things for families, things for kids, Sharjah

Who doesn’t love listening to a well-told tale? Storytellers from around the world turn Sheherazade on Sharjah’s Al Noor Island this weekend to round off the month-long International Storytelling Festival. If Emirati legends, Celtic ballads, myths of ancient Rome and Egypt to Indian sagas, have you leaning in, be there from 4.30pm.

Ripe for some shopping?

Ripe Market Police Academy

Ripe Market is making itself comfortable at its new home in Dubai Police Academy. Find the stallholders there every Friday and Saturday. Artists, jewellers and designers will be selling stuff, along with seasonal organic veg and baked treats. This weekend, there are also self-defence workshop, live music from 2pm-5pm both days, squidgy slime workshops for kids and more.

When you visit Deira City Centre this weekend, pop into Carrefour’s massive aisles and be sure to pick up a few canned goods. Deira City Centre has partnered with Emirates Red Crescent to host a food charity drive for the disadvantaged. While donations add to your sense of fulfilment, the organisers have also upped the ante and set-up a raffle draw of AED 2,000 for every donation made.
