Whether you’re off for a fortnight in Ibiza or a long weekend in Goa, DXB will set you on your way with some banging beats.
This weekend, Dubai International Airport welcomes its first-ever resident DJs, becoming probably the first airport in the world to do so (what happens in IBZ stays in IBZ).
Free monthly gigs begin from Thursday (4th April) and the 250,000 travellers who transit through the travel hub can expect to see Dubai DJ duo Hollaphonic begin their residency this weekend with two, two-hour sets.
The weekend after brings house grooves from homegrown spinners Scott Forshaw and Mark Shakedown. After a short break for Ramadan, watch out for the roaming musicDXB stage in Terminals 1 and 3 welcoming the soul sounds of Stephon Lamar and international talent such as US singer Alex Syps during the busy Eid break.
Hollaphonic’s Olly Wood and Greg Stainer are overseeing a monthly roster of entertainment that keeps the BPM fresh and eventually hope to add headline artists passing through the global hub of DXB.
It’s all part of an exciting plan to create the world’s most entertaining airport, which was unveiled in February 2019 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Airports and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
One of the world’s busiest airports had its first taste of party times when British singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner headlined a 10-hour gig there in June 2018. But many of us still dance to our own beat when travelling.
Hollaphonic’s Olly says: “Right now, an average one in five people are walking around the airport with headphones on, listening to music that comforts and soothes, motivates and inspires and sparks joy. You get those same feelings while travelling, so partnering with DXB seemed as natural as Mariah hitting a high note.”
