Festival City light and water fantastic Imagine marks the 121st Philippine Independence Day with a performance that’s been given a fantastic Filipino makeover. Images of iconic landmarks and the country’s colours of red, blue, white and yellow are choreographed to popular tunes for a series of shows.

Dubai’s only independent movie theatre, Cinema Akil, is hosting a weeklong celebration of Studio Ghibli classics. The series is a masterclass in anime – engaging, poetic, original stories told through spectacularly crafted animation sequences. On Thursday watch Spirited Away – the story of a young girl lost in the spirit world, desperately seeking a way home.

June’s Laughter Factory tour puts another great example of comedy range on stage.
