The biggest names in Filipino basketball are slam-dunking down in Dubai.
PBA (Philippines Basketball Association) returns to the emirate this October for two days of action.
This time the PBA’s top three teams are alley-oooping in the all-new Coca-Cola Arena, fresh from the Basketball World Cup in China.
The two-day ‘Back in Dubai’ showcase is the venue’s first sporting event and up to 17,000 fans could pack out its stands. These matches will follow fresh off the heels of the 2019 FIBA (The International Basketball Federation) World Cup. The competition taking place in China plays out between the 31st August and the 15th September.
Then of course in 2023, it will be The Philippines’ duty to host.
Who should we look out for?
Catch the first main game on Friday, 4th October as San Miguel Beermen take on NLEX Road Warriors. All eyes will be on the Beermen’s five-times MVP June Mar Fajardo, playing in Dubai for the first time in his career, where he’ll be hoping to hit ‘nothing but net.’
Leading the charge for Barangay Ginebra is Stanley Pringle, supported by dunk lords Justin Brownlee and the ‘Twin Towers’ Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter.
For the NLEX Road Warriors, Keifer Ravena (hopefully back fro FIBA suspension), Asi Taulava, Poy Erram, Larry Fonacier will all be looking to see that net swish.
Pre-game shoot outs and a proper Pinoy fiesta are promised, before the second game on Saturday 5th October, when NLEX will be pitted against Barangay Ginebra.
