Folly what a cracker

The view. The food. The blended beverages – everything on offer at folly Nick & Scott is something to write home about. And the return of warm winter evenings means the reopening of folly’s fabled rooftop location. As far as we’re concerned, no further visit incentive is needed, but there is one – between 31st October and 2nd November. There’s a happy hour where drinks are priced from AED 25 each.

12pm-12am. The Rooftop at folly, Madinat Jumeirah. 04 430 8535.

Vegan three ways

Amazing Asian5 has just opened a new location at Burjuman. TEP up your game

The JBR has a bunch of cool stuff going on for the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) – strip runs and mini-golf for example. But we’re super excited about the TEPfactor collaboration. The adventure entertainment attraction is offering DFC participants the opportunity to take part in a free challenge.

Abandoned and neglected cats and kittens need new homes. Meet them from 11am-5pm every Friday at Dubai Garden Centre, Al Quoz. New owners are asked to make a payment to a veterinary clinic, contributing towards neutering, de-worming, vaccinations and microchip costs, so you get a healthy and happy friend for life.

Scrummy little final

This weekend sees the final of the 2019 rugby world cup. England take on South Africa in what promises to be an epic, equally-matched clash. It all kicks off at 1pm, and why not watch it on neutral (US) ground. P&B’s have an All-Day, All-American breakfast, for AED 85 – and it is as extra as you imagine it would be. They also have a limited edition Webb Ellis Manwich (AED 75), a massive meat sandwich stacked like a well-assembled ruck, with layer upon layer of flavour-packed protein. And there are of course a number of drinks promotions including buckets and pitchers of hops from AED 99.

The story, which is potentially even more poignant now than when it was written, winds around guests at a dinner party, and examines the nature of love, life and the reality of relationships.

On Brand

The Irish Village has ordered in a double scoop of chart-topping acid funk this Thursday. The Brand New Heavies and The Blow Monkeys will be performing LIVE at the craic-ing venue, bringing with them a nostalgic wave of classic 80s groove. Contrary to popular belief, the party starts at 9pm, not midnight, at the oasis. Attendees are requested to send their camels to bed. If that sounds too cryptic, buy a ticket and thank us later.

AED 175. (Gates open 7pm) 9pm-11pm. The Irish Village Garhoud.

Happy Diwali!

We would be totally remiss if we did not include one of the most vibrant and colourful celebrations taking place across the UAE over the weekend and into next week. But rather than list all of the best options – and there are a lot of them – please click here, as we have, you guessed it, listed some of the best options. Here’s wishing you peace and prosperity this Diwali!

Friday, 25th October

Olea, Olea – for the whole day!

There’s a new family-friendly all-day dining and entertaining option on the scene, just say Olea! Head to Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates this Friday where they promise an agenda to keep you well-fed and entertained from (well not far off) dusk to dawn. Eat. Play. Brunch is the name and it starts at 10am with a lavish Parisian Breakfast at Aspen, by Kempinski. When you have had your fill, family thrills and spill await at Magic Planet before you had to Olea from 1pm until 5pm for food stations from all around the world, spit-roast lamb, a live BBQ and much more including of course plenty of free-flowing drinks and bubbles. The kids will barely remember you are there as they get stuck into the LEGO and American Girl dedicated play areas. Bliss!

AED 245 per person with full breakfast and lunch buffets, inclusive of soft beverages, and access to Magic Planet with two free games. AED 345 for the house beverage option. 5-12 years, 50 percent off, children under five eat for free. Reservations: or call 04 409 5111

A little house on the beach

If, for you, weekends are all about big ol’ beats on the beach, Barasti’s new Friday House Junky sessions will probably get your sea-l of approval. Make shapes on the sand with a 9pm-11pm happy hour where select drinks are only AED 30, and of course, because it’s Barasti, entrance is free. Starting the party this weekend, a DJ of festival-headlining proportions – Mr Anton Powers, will be dropping dancefloor wildfire.

Free. 11am-3am. Barasti Beach, Le Méridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina.

Line-caught comedy

The Big Fish comedy bus is back in town with a trio of comedy stars, booked to spit LOLs at three Dubai locations. Aussie Bec Hill opens with her own fusion of sizzling Twitter wit, sassy stand-up and paper puppetry. Next up is rising Irish star and Fringe-toasted gagsmith Colin Chadwick, who’s followed by headliner and comedy circuit godfather, Andre Vincent. Comedy connoisseurs this way, please.

AED 150. Dubai gigs start at 6.45pm Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Rivalries run deep

It really is crunch time this weekend in the Rugby World Cup as defending champions the All-Blacks square off in the first semi-final against England at midday UAE time. The boys in white may have enjoyed a comfortable win over the Aussies a week ago but it is likely that after pummelling Ireland the Kiwis are going to be full of the sort of confidence they must feel right after performing their traditional Haka war dance (above). So that’s what’s coming up on the pitch but where is the best place to watch it? Click here for some great options.

Themes legit

If you book a ticket for Dubai Parks & Resorts on, between now and 22nd December – you’ll get a free night’s stay at Rove At The Park, the new on-site theme park hotel. Play, stay, scream yay and keep your hands inside the rides all day – at one very special price.

AED 275. Dubai Parks & Resorts, Jebel Ali.
