Where to watch those NYE fireworks

The NYE countdown has started, and we still don’t know any of the lyrics to Auld Lang Syne, but that’s ok – because the sound of fireworks will muffle our shame.

Dubai traditionally goes all-in on party pyrotechnics on the 31st December, and if you want to make sure your eyes are pointing in the right direction when the fuses are lit, this is where to look.

Meraas destinations

La Mer in Jumeirah, Al Seef at Dubai Creek and both The Beach & Bluewaters by the JBR are all hosting their own fireworks spectaculars when the clock strikes midnight. And although City Walk and Kite Beach won’t have their own displays, they will have live dancers and entertainment as well as a pretty good view of the neighbouring wizz-bangs.

Burj khalifa and Downtown

EMAAR is celebrating the end of the decade in typical flamboyant style. With a spectacle involving light, sounds, fire and water – painted on the facade of the Burj Khalifa, from the fountains below it and in the sky above our heads.

If you don’t want to fight for spectating space, almost all of the restaurants with unobstructed views (in the Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar for example) are hosting NYE parties – our pick of the best is coming soon. If you’re travelling Downtown make sure you check out our NYE transport guide in advance.

Festival City

fireworks, festival city mall, Eid, holidays

Another crowd favourite – Festival City is also supersizing for NYE 2020. This year there’ll be an audacious new #ImagineDubai water and light extravaganza, a DJ that plays your requests and four individual sets of fireworks. Put on your comfy flats, and find your place amongst the revellers – this is going to be an epic evening.

Al Marjan Island – Ras Al Khaimah

RAK is promising to break records yet again with its 2020 firework display. The established dabblers in awe are whispering about custom-built Japanese aerial shells. And you know the fireworks are going to be lit when they refer to them as ‘shells.’ In addition to the sky fire, there’s a special family spectating area, a kids zone featuring engaging paid activities and a dance arena for those that went to get down, after looking up. With DJs Bliss, Badir and Mr Shef Codes providing the on-deck NYE vibes

AED 100 (in advance, AED 150 on the door). From 6pm-3am. Al Marjan Island. www.platinumlist.net.
