Even though Katniss Everdeen destroyed the Capitol’s vicious game in the second part of The Hunger Games series, the crew reunites once again to prepare for war, or better yet one last game.
After the way the last movie ended, those who haven’t already read the book will be glued to the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens to Peeta now that he’s brainwashed and back from The evil Capitol.
Josh Hutcherson’s role as Peeta drastically changed from the sweet and sensitive boy who would do anything for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) to a mindless ‘mutt’ who’s out to kill her.
Director Francis Lawrence was quite impressed with Josh Hutcherson’s willingness to go the edge in this new incarnation of Peeta. “He really blew me away in this film because he was so incredible at showing how tormented Peeta is in his current state,” he says. “I know Josh so well, but watching him in these scenes, I didn’t recognize any part of him.”
As expected, the situation put a strain on Katniss and Peeta’s relationship forcing them to start over. But after everything they’ve been through, this is just another chapter leading up to the final scene of the film.
“There was a really strong feeling on the set when we got to the scene – a feeling that all the history of all these characters through the course of these four movies had built up to this singular moment,” says Francis.
She adds: “I hope audiences really feel that history and also a sense of the future.”
