Did you know tomorrow is Car Free Day in Dubai?
Ditch four wheels for the day and you could win a free buffet dinner at Anise restaurant in the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City.
Of course there’s a catch – you need to among the first 10 people to make their way there by public transport, on Sunday, 5th February.
Oh, and you’ll need to bring receipts to prove you this. Organisers say you can either request a receipt for your journey from the nearest Metro station, or if your Nol card is personalised (the blue ones are), you can also access this information online.
Whether you need an incentive to ride the Metro or not, Dubai’s eighth annual car-free day could see more than 30,000 people leaving their cars at home.
According to Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), for every 1,000 people in the emirate there are 540 cars, which is one of the highest vehicle densities in the world.
But Dubai also has a modern and efficient public transport system, so there’s really no excuse for not hanging up your car keys for the day, to catch a bus, use marine transport, ride the Metro, or even walk or cycle.
Register for Car Free Day and find out more here.
If you want to take part in the Intercontinental’s fun challenge, you can go by Metro to Rashadiya, Emirates or Creek; catch buses 53, 43, 24 and 64A, or even take a water transport from Al Jaddaf Marine Station.
No, taxis are not included!
