How booking a Careem could help refugees

Book a ride with Careem from today and you’ll be given the chance to help.

The car hailing app announced in February that it was collaborating with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as part of the UAE’s Year of Giving.

Now Careem customers have the option to select an UNHCR car and made a donation of AED 3.

Speaking at the time, Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and founder of Careem, said: “Careem, which means to be generous in Arabic, was born with a simple purpose of simplifying and improving the lives of people.”

The UN’s refugee agency helps to save, protect and rebuild the lives of millions of people forced to flee their homes due to violence and conflict.

It’s not the first time the UAE has offered help to the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organisation. In January 2017, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved the expansion of International Humanitarian City, which offers support to agencies including the UNHCR.
