Faulty tyres have caused the deaths of eight people and injured 35 in accidents since the start of 2017.
Now police are warning motorists in Dubai that blistering summer heat can cause potentially fatal tyre blow-outs, so it’s more important than ever to carry out tyre checks.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director General of Dubai Police’s Traffic Department, stressed the importance of making sure each corner of the car is road worthy.
He added that driving that worn and balding tyres can not only be risky for one behind the wheel, but for others on the road, too, as they could suddenly exploded, causing collisions with other cars.
In the past seven months, 2,248 motorists were hit with fines for driving their vehicles with faulty or worn tyres.
Drivers should make sure they check tyres regularly, including the pressure, as under or over inflation can lower your car’s fuel economy as well as making you a hazard on the road. Tread safely and always carry a spare!
Visiting the garage to have tyres changed can be a hassle, but new service by Stop & Go offers a complimentary chauffeur service to drivers.
