The largest travel guidebook publisher in the world, Lonely Planet, posted a list of 10 of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods and Dubai’s very own Business Bay is number five!
*Does happy dance*
We’re actually not surprised that Business Bay is the one of the up-and-coming places to hang out, and it’s only promising to get better. This year, Radisson and Melia are set to open hotels there and Damac will be launching two new ones by 2018.
It’s also home to the new Dubai Water Canal and the soon-to-open the Marasi Business Bay Promenade, which once complete will add 10-12km of waterfront promenade, five tree-lined marinas, plus homes, offices and restaurants to the ever-growing area.
Amongst the other hip postal codes rated by Lonely Planet were Seongsu-dong, Seoul; Frelard, Seattle; Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro and Sunset Park, New York City. But we know where we prefer.
Four things you can only do in Business Bay:
Watch the sun dip over the Canal while playing retro games
The Backyard in the Steigenberger Hotel Business Bay has loud but not overbearing music, bright art work and a clutch of ways to joyfully waste with foosball, pool tables and retro video game. We rate the food and there’s an equally lovely pool deck up above.

Eat traditional Chinese food with hundreds of other hungry diners
Three-storey restaurant Long Teng is new to the Dubai food scene and set to make a massive impression. Capable of accommodating more than a thousand diners, the dishes are as big and bold as the setting. Be sure to try the cheung feng rice noodle rolls.

Switch up your fitness regime to a reggaeton soundtrack
Indoor spin class Motion Cycling at Oberoi Commercial Tower has awesome instructors, the Burj View classes, and the themed-music rides that make you want to get up and dance. Read our review to find out more then try your first class for free.

Admire street art while buying your five a day
Inside Bay Avenue Mall are a variety of places to shop, eat and pamper, but outside it really gets interesting, with edgy graffiti from some of the UAE’s best street artists lining the car park, which is regularly taken over by cool happenings like Street Nights DXB. Come winter, there’s a popular farmers’ market in the nearby park.
