Service centres to be closed for one day next month – here’s why

A Day Without Service Centres pretty much means what you’d expect.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has announced a new initiative to encourage residents to get ‘appy.

For one day on 26th October, government service centres will shut up shop in a bid to get people using government services smart channels – that’s websites and apps to you and me.

It’s part of His Highness’s vision to “realise full smart transformation” to ensure that Dubai becomes “the world’s happiest and smartest city” and will eventually become an annual event.

Swapping attending in person for apps reduces cost, time, traffic and carbon emissions.

Don’t worry, if a particular transaction you need requires you to present yourself in person – like a medical – official sources have said that these services will still be offered as usual.

There’s still plenty of time to make sure you have the relevant websites bookmarked and key service apps downloaded, including the award winning ‘Dubai Now’ app, which offers 50 services from 22 government entities, including topping up Nol or Salik balances and paying DEWA or any outstanding traffic fines.

Whilst browsing the App or Google Play stores, why not check out our list of Dubai’s must-have apps to ensure you’re making the most out of the city’s cyberspace offerings.
