If you’re concerned about the planet, but still want to zip around it (at least the part we live in), you’ll be pleased to know Uber has added now added electric vehicles in its UAE fleet.

From Tuesday, 10th October, the ride-hailing app will have 50 brand-new Tesla Model X electric vehicles available as part of the new UberONE, which will be priced in line with UberBLACK (essentially Uber’s luxury option).

Don’t worry if there are no UberONE cars available, because customers will still be able to request the lower-cost UberX, or UberBLACK and larger capacity UberXL rides.

Uber has partnered with Dubai Taxi Corporation for the green energy initiative to offer electric cars that can reduce noise and air pollution and have lower operating costs. The announcement comes off the back of manufacturer Tesla opening a showroom in Dubai, opposite Dubai Mall Metro station and Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) snapping up 200 hybrid electric vehicles and Dubai Police riding around in clean and green BMW i3s.

Uber’s Chris Free said: “We are tremendously excited to be the exclusive ride-hailing partner for this fleet of premium electric vehicles in Dubai, in partnership with Dubai Taxi Corporation, and for the clean vehicle technology to deliver our driver-partners and riders with more efficient, less-polluting mobility.”

To use, download the Uber app and select UberONE.
