Many of us have probably enjoyed the hospitality of McGettigan’s during our time in Dubai. Now the Irish pub chain has been named the best of its kind IN THE WORLD.
Brushing off competition from across the globe, McGettigan’s JLT has been crowned Irish Pub of the Year at the Irish Pubs Global Awards, which took place in the beautiful city of Dublin on Tuesday.
Last year the same title was claimed by the Irish Village in Al Garhoud, which shows that despite being 7,700 kilometres miles away from the motherland, Dubai still knows how to put together a top class Irish pub.
With the luck of the Irish, the popular bar chain took home five awards in total: Best Food Experience – Best Gastro Pub for McGettigan’s Souk Madinat Jumeirah, which celebrates its first year of business this weekend with some cracking deals. Group Executive Chef Derek Flynn won the title of Best Chef and group chairman, Jim McGettigan, was also honoured with a lifetime achievement award.
It wasn’t just the McGettigan’s Dubai team who were packing trophies into their suitcases – in the same ceremony, McGettigan’s Abu Dhabi was named the Best Irish Community Pub in the world.
Dennis McGettigan, who managed the JLT branch when it opened in 2010, said: “To be awarded Pub of the Year out of all the Irish pubs in the world is a great honour and is testament to our popularity as a brand. McGettigan’s JLT offers something for everyone, great drinks, and delicious food.”
