Just in time for the cooler weather, this pretty epic beachfront development is opening at Jumeirah 1.
It’s just been announced that the first phase of La Mer will open on Sunday, 15th October, and it looks like a great place to hangout over the winter.
The huge construction has been creeping up and in a matter of days, some of it is going to be ready to wander round.
Covering a pretty massive 13.4 million square feet of land between Pearl Jumeira and Jumeira Bay, La Mer has the Arabian Gulf on one side and the city skyline on the other.
Split into three zones – La Mer South, La Mer North and The Wharf – the leisure destination takes its inspiration from what the sea brings up to shore, so expect to see driftwood, timber and rusted metal. We reckon these water hammocks will be the scene of many an impromptu social media shoot!
The first phase of the project, which opens on Sunday, will have more than 1,300 shops, cafés, restaurants, and places for beach activities on its 2.5 kilometres of sands.
There’ll be a natural playground where kids can play safely the and a beach club called Sea Spice is set to open soon. Colourful day rooms and cabanas can be rented by the day and in a first outside of East Asia, La Mer will also be home to Hawa Hawa – a really cool trampoline playground that’s big in Japan.
Basically they’ve thought of everything you need to spend the full day there – beach-side showers, toilets with baby changing and disabled access, free wifi, information hubs, mobile charging, prayer rooms, four children’s playground areas and more than 1,000 parking spaces.
When the second part, The Wharf, is finished in early 2018, it will include a waterpark with surf park, cinema, and more shops and restaurants. A hotel and homes will eventually be built there too.
Developer Meraas (which has also created City Walk, The Beach, Boxpark, Last Exit, The Outlet Village and the newly-opened Al Seef) revealed the mega-project at last year’s Cityscape and we’ve been eagerly awaiting it ever since.
