A total of 24 teams made up of women and girls will go head-to-head in tournament, the Global Goals World Cup. Each team represents one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals created by the United Nations to lead the world to a more stable future – the Goalden Girls represent goal number four, ‘quality education’.
Overseeing the games will be Bollywood actor, John Abraham. Most famous for his movie Dhoom, he owns Indian professional football franchise North East United FC. He is also an ambassador of the Global Goals World Cup and a Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Other influential faces at the event will be Raha Moharrak, the first Saudi woman to climb Mount Everest; Allan Nielsen, a Danish former professional football player and Houriya Al Taheri, the head coach and technical director of the UAE women’s national team.
Everyone is welcome to the matches, which take place from 4pm-9pm at Dubai’s first zero energy development, off Al Qudra Road. Entry is free and there’ll be entertainment for everyone to enjoy.
Cars are allowed in Sustainable City, but why not go green and take the bus instead (the number F32 runs there from Mall of the Emirates).
