Police have arrested a man after 11 cars were gutted in a fire at Dubai Outlet Mall car park.
The suspected arsonist, who was apprehended while trying to flee the country, allegedly started the fire in a bus driven by his friend, after the pair had an argument. Flames quickly spread to 10 other cars in the incident on Saturday (12th May).
Lieutenant Colonel Adel Al-Joker, director of Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, said police received a call about the fire at approximately 4pm on Saturday.
Dubai Civil Defence teams quickly extinguished flames in car lot in Al Ain Road, then specially trained police officers began investigating the cause.
“Through extensive searches and investigations,” Lt. Col. Al-Joker said, “the field team in the CID managed to identify the suspect and his residence and arrest him in record time.”
The case has been referred to the public prosecutor.
