People with disabilities can claim free taxi rides until the end of 2018.
Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) announced the Al Khair Ride initiative, which offers complimentary travel from Dubai Airports to people of determination.
All they need to do is call 04 208 0808 at any time and a specially-adapted taxi will be sent out. The cabs are equipped with wheelchair lifts and driver are trained to help people with disabilities or special needs get about easily and safely.
The kind gesture is the result of teamwork between the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) DTC and Al-Futtaim Motors Company.
Dr Yousef Al Ali, CEO of DTC and Vice-Chairman of the RTA Charity Foundation, says: “People of Determination can avail Al Khair Ride initiative by calling where the service is run at Dubai airports round the clock. Al Khair Ride is part of DTC’s plans in response to the UAE’s ‘Year of Zayed’ and RTA’s Foundation initiatives. The initiative also encapsulates the lifelong values of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.”
He added that the move is also part of the government’s drive to turn Dubai into one of the world’s most disabled-friendly cities by 2020.
In May 2017, Dubai’s Ruler His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, announced that people with disabilities and special needs should be known as “the determined ones” and appointed a dedicated “determined ones” officer to every government department.
Since then, Kite Beach has installed a disability access ramp and Dubai Municipality launched a ‘water chair service’ at Al Mamzar Beach Park.
To book a cab, called DTC ON 04 208 0808.
