Dubai Tram and a car have collided.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is using buses to commute tram riders around the stations affected.
The RTA confirmed in a series of tweets that a car is believed to have struck one of the tram’s coaches on Wednesday morning (11th July) between 8.15 and 8.45 close to the Mina Seyahi Tram Station.
As yet there have been no reports of injury. Services have been suspended between Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah.
The Dubai Tram opened in 2014 and ferries over five million people per year around Knowledge Park, Dubai Media City, Dubai Marina, JBR and JLT.
Similar incidents have been reported in December 2014, September 2015 and September 2017 and the RTA practices emergency response drills.
The penalties for crossing a red light at a tram junction (and causing injury) can be up to AED 15,000, with driving license suspension of up to one year. Whilst incidents resulting in no injury can carry penalties of AED 5,000 with a three month suspension.
