Need a new TV? Desperate for the latest smartphone? Gitex Shopper – Dubai’s biggest electronic shopping extravaganza – is back.
A bigger and better Shopper, which is once again at Dubai World Trade Centre’s (DWTC) Za’abeel Halls, has confirmed dates for 2nd-6th October.
After the April edition was postponed, tech fans have had all summer to save and plan their purchases. So what’s waiting for them in 2018? Shoppers can have all their burning questions answered at four Xperience Zones where ‘techsperts’ will offer support, guidance and tips on getting the most out of your new gadgets. Drop in at free workshops on how to take better photos and listen to panel discussion with talking heads from the world of tech.
Also making their début for autumn’s shopping bonanza 2018 are the Shopper Games, where 400 would-be video games champions go head-to-head. There’s an ‘unboxing’ area too, where you can see the latest gizmos unpacked and tested.
More than 35,000 products will go on sale at “market-busting deals,” including smartphones, cameras, laptops, HDTVs, consoles and in-home entertainment. Among big brands confirmed for the five-day event are Emax, Jacky’s, Jumbo, SharafDG and Axiom. Gitex Shopper will also have a new drone zone, where operators of all skills levels are trained in flying unmanned aerial vehicles, before hopefully making a purchase.
In case you didn’t know, crazy deals and big crowds are the hallmarks of Gitex Shopper. As well as the latest gadgets, there are hourly competitions where shoppers can win SUVs, holidays, cameras and more, plus the usual crowd-pulling flash sales.
Due to all this, it’s bound to be busy, especially as this year tickets are only AED 20 (down from AED 30 in 2017). We’d recommend going there by Metro, but six hours of free parking at DWTC are on offer to those who spend more than AED 300 at the show.
Once you get there, here’s what Atul Joshi, Head of Distribution at Jumbo Electronics, predicts you’re buying:
“We are expecting a surge in demand for gaming laptops, thin and light laptops and gaming products, digital cameras, ultra-large televisions using OLED and QLED technologies, as well as high-end smartphones from leading brands,” he says.
