Dubai’s new concert arena has hit an important milestone.
The now 17,000 capacity gig space was first announced in 2016 and we’ve watched it climb up behind City Walk since then.
Now we know that the Dubai Arena on track for opening in 2019; it’s façade is complete and the first of 46 hospitality suites are complete. Next month, scoreboards and a lighting and sound system will be fitted.
Final acoustic checks, which will take place under a roof that weighs the same as seven A380 airplanes, are scheduled for the end of 2018.
Once finished, it’s set to be the largest all-purpose, air-conditioned indoor arena in the Middle East and North Africa. This means it can play host to a variety of events all year round – from tennis and basketball, to gala dinners and festivals – and major tours and global events as they make their way round the world.
Abdulla Al Habbai, Group Chairman of developers Meraas, says: “Every city is known for something – but few, if any, can compare to Dubai when it comes to leisure and entertainment experiences. Dubai Arena has been designed to enhance the city’s reputation as a destination for world-class events and hospitality and will transform the industry throughout the Middle East.
“We are confident that Dubai Arena will position the city on the international entertainment touring circuit and the audiences will have the opportunity to witness the world’s most talented performers and sporting events in the heart of Dubai.”
