Holidays for everyone to mark the Prophet’s birthday

A long weekend is coming up soon for workers in the UAE’s public and private sectors.

The country’s Cabinet announced a day off for all government employees, to mark the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday (PBUH). Federal offices and ministries will shut on Sunday, 18th November and work will resume again on Monday, 19th.

Sunday will also be a paid public holiday for private sector workers, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

A guide to public holidays in the UAE for 2018

November and December are among the busiest months for public holidays in the UAE. Commemoration Day (previously known as Martyrs’ Day) falls on 30th November every year, when we remember Emiratis who died for their country. However this year it’s a Friday, so a long weekend doesn’t look likely.

National Day on 2nd December is a Sunday, so celebrations for the UAE’s 47th anniversary of unification could call for a holiday weekend.

As usual, we’ll give you plenty of inspiration for things to do to make the most of any time off work.
