Dubai Police have advised drivers to take more care during bad weather.
The force dealt with 66 traffic accident in three hours during the rainstorm on Monday morning. Dubai Police Command & Control Unit received 1,812 emergency calls between 6am-9am. Fortunately, there were no reports of serious injuries.
Motorists should be cautious in the rain and stay away from pools of water.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei told motorists to slow down and keep a safe distance between cars.
The director general of the Traffic Department at Dubai Police added: “Allow extra time for your journey and check your planned route.”
People should also take care in mountainous areas of the emirate, where police are now carrying out 24-hour patrols. Driving in the desert after rainfall is also dangerous, police warned.
On one rainy day in November last year, cops dealt with 147 road accidents in just four hours. Seven sailors were also rescued from a capsized ship during the storm.
