Drive carefully for a year and you could see existing traffic fines wiped out.
Dubai Police announced a new initiative for motorists as part of the Year of the Tolerance.
From this month onwards, if you end up getting a ticket for speeding, or other motoring offences, it reduced or even cancelled. All you need to do is drive carefully after that.
Here’s how it’s going to work:
- Drivers who do not commit any traffic violations for three months get 25 per cent on the total accumulated existing fines.
- Those who do not commit any traffic violations for six months get 50 per cent off
- Don’t commit any traffic violations for nine months for a 75 per cent reduction
- Motorists whose record stays clean for 12 months earn a 100 per cent reduction
The initiative was directed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and starts this month.
Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, assistant commander-in-chief for operations at Dubai Police, said it applies to all private vehicles registered in Dubai, but doesn’t include rental cars.
Police are tracking drivers’ compliance from when the scheme launched on the 6th February, with a 25 per cent discount applied every three months. If you commit another driving offence before this time, then the ‘clock’ is reset. Also, if you leave the emirate for more than three months from the date of the violation, you can’t benefit from any discounts.
Here’s an easy way to pay any driving fines that you do have.
