If there isn’t a playground for kids near you, then there could be one soon.
Dubai Municipality is to build 50 new recreation areas around Dubai. Work on Project Play, as we’re calling it, has already begun. We don’t have details of exactly where the parks are popping up, but the Municipality says they’ll be in “residential areas throughout the city,” including Deira, Bur Dubai, Nad Al Sheba, the village of Lehbab and Hatta City.
The playgrounds and squares for children will be completed by the end of 2019, says Dawoud Al Hajri, director general of Dubai Municipality.
Dubai’s Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum issued a directive for the work to happen, to encourage residents to lead healthier lifestyles. Factors he wants officials to consider when creating the new playgrounds include “the varied needs of visitors, ensuring their proximity to residential premises, and taking into consideration overall sustainability.”
