Dubai saw heavy rains over the weekend that continued till early Sunday (14th April) morning.
Despite Dubai Police urging motorists to keep a safe distance between cars and adjust their speed to the weather conditions, not everyone escaped the perils of the rain. A total of 203 smashes happened across Dubai from 6am on Saturday till 7am on Sunday.
The force also updated their Twitter handle with a handy reminder to check tyres and windshields before embarking on a journey. Deputy director of Dubai Traffic Police, Colonel Jumaa bin Suwaidan, reminded drivers to “allow extra time for your journey and check your planned route. It’s also advisable to slow down as rain makes roads slippery.”
While Dubai Police have stepped up the level of readiness to deal with any emergencies in mountainous areas and places where there’s flooding, people are advised to stay away from pools of water and valleys when the weather is unstable. It’s also not a good idea to visit the desert during rainy weather, the force says.
Remember drivers, speeding is dangerous, and hazard lights are not to be used unless you are coming to a full stop.
